Streams & HLS

Save HLS and page streams that the browser cannot download as a normal file.

Many sites play HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) or similar adaptive streams. The browser plays them fine but does not offer a single downloadable file. AVS can capture those streams when they are available to you on the page — without being a DRM bypass.

When to use this

Use Streams / HLS when:

  • The page has a player but Save as… or the download menu only offers a tiny stub or nothing.
  • Network tools show .m3u8 playlists or segmented media.
  • A normal direct URL download is not offered.

For a plain MP4/MP3 link, use Downloads instead. For YouTube, prefer YouTube & playlists.

Capture a stream

  1. Open the page in a supported browser with AVS running and the extension connected.
  2. Start playback if the site only loads the stream after play.
  3. Let AVS detect the stream, or paste the page URL into the app if your build supports that flow.
  4. Choose a quality tier when multiple variants exist (higher quality = more bandwidth and disk).
  5. Wait for segments to finish assembling into one file in your library.

What AVS will not do

  • Bypass DRM (Widevine, FairPlay, encrypted premium catalogs, etc.).
  • Download streams you cannot legally access.
  • Guarantee every website — players and CDNs change frequently.

Tips

  • Stable Wi‑Fi helps; long live streams need enough free disk space.
  • If detection fails, refresh the page, start playback again, or update AVS from the App Store.
  • Convert the finished file with the built-in converter if you need MP3 or another container.
