How to Open Magnet Links on Mac
A magnet link is not a file. It is a hash plus trackers. macOS does not know what to do with magnet: until an app claims that scheme. AVS Download Manager can be that app — next to regular downloads.
Magnet vs .torrent
A .torrent file already lists the files and piece hashes. A magnet link asks the swarm for that metadata first. AVS accepts both and lets you uncheck files you do not want.
Open a magnet in AVS
- Install AVS and open the Torrents window
- Paste the magnet link, or click a magnet: URL once AVS is registered
- Wait for metadata, then pick files
- Watch seeds and peers; pause or resume like any other item
