How to Download Videos on Mac
The browser can play a video and still refuse to save it. Many sites send HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) or Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) segments instead of one MP4. A download manager that understands those streams is the difference.
Three kinds of video download
- A direct MP4 / MKV link — any manager can save it
- A page with an embedded player — the extension has to detect the media
- A segmented HLS / DASH stream — segments must be fetched and merged
